Orphans in Liberia
adam demark
Psalm 68:5 "A father to the fatherless, a defender of the widows, is God in his holy dwelling."
It's hard to imagine how this could be really happening right now just across the ocean. But it's true. So many thousands of orphans since the Ebola outbreak. According to international nonprofit, Save the Children, the country has registered more than 2,000 new orphans since the epidemic began. Unable to make it to a hospital, or too afraid, parents are dying at home alongside kids who are powerless to save them. If the children survive, they are left facing communities too concerned to take them in, scared they will spread the virus.
Deuteronomy 10:18 "He defends the cause of the fatherless..."
More than 1 million school-going children living in the Ebola-affected areas of Liberia are currently out of school, which have no immediate prospects of reopening. The Ebola epidemic is beginning to steal West African children’s hope for a better life. Liberia is asking for the international community to aid their country. Without outside help, Liberia has little hope.
James 1:27 "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress..."
God says in His Word that He is a Father to the fatherless. That He cares for those who have been left alone in this world. If our Heavenly Father cares, so must we. We want our heart to beat in the same way. God knows each of these children by name. He has created them in His image, he loves each one.
Let's make it a point to PRAY for Liberia. For the many orphans. Pray that extended family members or other families will take in these dear innocent children. Pray that God will spare their lives from Ebola.
