West African Leaders take the Challenge

adam demark

"You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others." 2 Timothy 2:1,2

Equip2serve has always from its inception been about training leaders so that they can teach their own people.  It's not a small task.  With travel being as it is today, we can get there quicker. That's not the biggest problem.  The issue lies in the battle. The battle between good & evil.  You see Satan doesn't want these men to know TRUTH. He doesn't want them to study the scriptures, he wants them to remain in the dark. Often with just enough of the truth but not quite enough to get the full picture.  It's been our privilege to bring God's Word to these men both in Liberia and Ghana.  It's no easy task as we teach through the Bible, laying a solid foundation of God, Man's sin, Redemption, Sanctification, and our call to glorify God by telling others this good news! There isn't a day that goes by that we don't pray that God would continue to allow us this privilege!

Another huge battle in West Africa is a false gospel.  Yes, it has come swiftly into these churches. It's easy to preach that God will bless abundantly just as long as YOU do your part! It's dangerous to preach that you should give to the church in order to be saved. It's convenient to preach what you heard as a story passed on from person to person without fully knowing the Biblical account. It seems more rewarding to have a huge congregation with lots of money, surely God has blessed!  But what about suffering? persecution? poverty? illness? disease? war? Do we ignore that part? NO!

Paul wrote a lot of things to Timothy long ago.  It's recorded in 1 & 2 Timothy.  Flip through those pages and read how Paul instructs Timothy. He warns him about false teachers, godlessness in the last days, being a strong soldier, fighting the good fight, and embracing solid doctrine. "But you man of God, flee from all this and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith." 1 Tim.6:11,12a And finally, "In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. while evil men and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it. "2 Tim.3:12-15.  It's clear from scripture that the true gospel does not exclude suffering.  And in this we encourage each leader to embrace scripture and preach the Word of God. By God's grace, they can fight against a false gospel and bring many into the TRUTH.

What a joy to see these leaders taking the baton and begin to use their Biblical training to teach others! Would you pray for them?  They are up against many foes!

"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope-the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good." Titus 1:11-14
